We have put together a few tips for your bathroom lighting and show you what kind of bathroom lights you can use to make your bathroom attractive.
Basic lighting for your bathroom
There are a good number of lighting ideas out there for the modern bathroom. First of all, it is always important that you provide sufficient basic lighting. You can achieve this, for example, with ceiling lights or recessed lights. Functional light helps you with your daily personal care, for example near the bathroom mirror, where you can choose a classic mirror light or an LED mirror.
Illuminate individual zones in the bathroom
As in other living spaces, there are areas in the bathroom that require functional light to carry out certain activities. That is why LED lighting in the bathroom is a very popular choice. Beautiful LED bathroom lighting, mounted on both sides of the mirror or above it for example, offers you several advantages, and its bright light helps create an authentic reflection. At the same time, it makes applying make-up or shaving easier. In addition to functionality, bathroom lighting is very energy efficient thanks to LED.
Ceiling, wall or maybe mirror lights?
Ceiling lights and spotlights provide bright light in the bathroom and ensure a uniform basic brightness. You can use mirror lights to illuminate specific areas. In addition to classic LED mirror lights in many sizes and designs, Paulmann also offers mirrors with integrated LED lighting and beautiful LED wall lights.

Thanks to their warm white or adjustable colour light, they are a great option for beautifying your bathroom.
Bathroom lighting – What to consider
When it comes to bathroom lighting, safety plays a particularly important role. That's why we've put together a few more useful tips for your bathroom lighting.
IP protection classes for the bathroom
The bathroom is a high-humidity area, which is why there are clear requirements for bathroom lights. Depending on the protection zone in which you want to install a light, a certain IP protection class will be required.
- Protection zone 2, at least IP44 : Protection zone 2 begins near the bathtub or shower. From there it extends from a depth of 60 centimetres up to a height of 2.25 metres. Luminaires with protection class IP44 are the right choice for this area. They are ideal for use in humid areas and are protected on all sides against water ingress.
- Protection zone 1, at least IP65 : If you want to install lights in the immediate vicinity of the bathtub or shower, a higher protection class is required: IP65. Lights with IP65 protection are water-jet proof. They are suitable for use in the bathroom as well as outdoors.
In addition to protection zones 1 and 2, there is also protection zone 0. For this zone, you need luminaires that are waterproof, meaning that they have at least protection class IP67.
What kind of lights are suitable for the bathroom?
In addition to recessed and panel lights, ceiling lights are particularly suitable for basic lighting. Good ceiling lighting for the bathroom provides you with a sense of orientation and a feeling of safety. Supplement them with the right wall lights. Dimmable lamps and ceiling lights are the ideal choice. They let you adjust the lighting to suit your mood.
Which bathroom areas need to be illuminated?
Make sure there is sufficient general lighting in the bathroom. This is for your safety and for your sense of orientation. The right lighting can also be integrated in the ceiling, making it the ideal place for bathroom lighting. It also makes sense to illuminate the mirror above the washbasin. There is no general answer as to which light colour is best suited for individual areas in the bathroom. Some people choose a warm white light, others prefer neutral white or cool white light. Paulmann offers luminaires in a variety of light colours.
How many lumens are needed in the bathroom?
You can create the ideal lighting conditions in your bathroom using a combination of basic, mirror and accent lighting. For the key basic lighting, you should plan for 250 to 300 lumens per square metre. Hazards such as water or objects on the floor can then be easily identified.
Find the right bathroom lighting
