1. Length of the pendant
The set height of the pendant is very important:Too high and it will blind you, too low and you can't see the person sitting across from you. A distance of 60-70 cm between the table tabletop and the lower edge of the luminaire is ideal. The same applies for pendant lights over a counter.
2. Number of and distance between luminaires
Most people find an uneven number of luminaires most attractive. The distance between them should align with the length of the table: Three luminaires separate the table into quarters, etc.
3. Dimming function of the lamps
More light is needed for doing homework than for sitting and chatting at the end of the evening – that is why a lamp with dimming function is your best choice.
4. Colour temperature
You can purchase a warm white or daylight white lamp, or choose one that allows colour change. Have a look at the packaging to make sure you buy the right one.
Warm white light feels cosy and relaxing, while daylight white is perfect for working.
5. Size of the room
How much light is needed in the room? A smaller dining room may need no more than just some pendant luminaires over the dining table for basic lighting – provided they create enough illumination for the whole room.
A larger or open plan room will benefit from additional luminaires to create structure and depth. You could install some spots to highlight paintings or decorative objects, or add accent lighting to show off your good china in the glass-fronted cabinet.
You have an extendable dining table, an open-plan kitchen and dining area, or the power outlet is in the wrong position? There's always a solution.
