HCL Cycle: Automated white light throughout the course of the day
With HCL Cycle, you can set the desired white tone and brightness throughout the course of your day. The automation continuously adapts the lighting all day long, providing precisely the light you need at any given time. Nowadays, we often spend most of our time in enclosed spaces, but originally, our day was characterised by the brightness of the sun and natural daylight. Light that changes seamlessly and automatically between different lighting scenarios can have a calming or activating effect, for example.
What does HCL mean?
HCL stands for Human Centric Lighting, meaning lighting that focuses on people and their wellbeing, performance and health. The modern LED lighting technology enables different light colours and brightnesses and, thus, smart lighting control that can automatically adjust the light quality to your natural biorhythm. Because light not only affects us visually, but emotionally and biologically as well. At different times of the day and year, the HCL control system generates the right light at the right time, similar to the natural progression of the sun throughout the day; or not, depending on your preferences.
6:30 in the morning:
As you switch on the light, it starts with a high amount of blue light (cool white light), making you feel energised and alert. Then, the light changes to warm white while you enjoy a relaxed breakfast.
8:00–16:30 working from home:
Neutral white light boosts your concentration – effective lighting in reduced natural light helps increase your capacity to retain information.
Time to relax!
The lighting changes from neutral white to warm white to gold light - The amount of blue light reduces considerably and the light turns a reddish colour; perfect for relaxing and your natural sleep-wake cycle.
How can I configure my personal HCL Cycle?
"In the smik app, the HCL Cycle continuously adapts the colour and brightness value of the light throughout the course of the day. An active HCL cycle does not switch the light on or off in an assigned area, but kicks in when the light is switched on.
An HCL cycle with conventional times and light settings can be activated immediately on first use. Alternatively, the cycle can easily be modified. Simply move the target points to adjust the times. The white tone and brightness can be adjusted for the selected target point using the slider. You can have two to six target points in one HCL Cycle. The minimum interval is 30 minutes. "
